Burning Ones

burning passion Oct 30, 2020

I love this question, and yes, I ask this of myself.  Many times the answers I get are right.  Some of very good and hit the mark entirely. But what I want to do is give us spiritual and scriptural answers that both challenge us and guide us.  Are you on fire for God?  A fear question to ask, but a scary one to answer.

I will give you some scriptures that you can use to gauge where you are on your walk with Christ.  However, I offer one extreme caution.  This is not a test of maturity.  It is to be used as signage on the side of the road on your journey.  Do not use this to put yourself down or to use against others.  It is merely a light unto your pathway.

There are two ways that we seek the Father.  One is prayer, and the other is Scripture.  Jesus made this statement.

John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

We see these two coupled together.  One way is to seek Him in the scriptures.  Jesus put this another way when challenging the leaders.

John 5:46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. John 5:47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

The constant study of God's word is paramount to our burning flame inside of us.  The word is the fuel on which the Holy Spirit fire can use.

The other is prayer.  Prayer is the place where we tend to the fire that ignites us.  Picture the Holy Spirit as the pilot light on the furnace or stove.  It needs fuel to continue to burn hot.  It was the priest's job to maintain the flame of the candlestick with both oil and a wick.  The wick was trimmed so that the oil would burn effectively.

Jesus said to abide in Me.  It means to stay.  Put simply, sit and visit with Me for a while, and I will transform your life.  We have this tremendous promise from the Lord.  It is found in the book of Hebrews.

Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Being on fire is defined by this. I live, move, and have my being in Christ.

Acts 17:28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, "For we are also His offspring.'

And,

Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

And still,

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

If you have found that the fire is almost out, do the things you did initially.  When Christ was new, and you could do nothing but think of Him.  You will find that Holy Spirit will come with the fire from the altar and consume you once again.  If you are on fire, then spread the flames.  Touch people with the fire of His life and set ablaze your environment.  What the world needs are fire starters and flame throwers.  Be one today.

I look forward to seeing you burn for Christ.

Love,

Louis
